Claiming DLA for a DVT? help?
My partner suffers from severe DVT in his left leg. He is at the doctors at least once a week for INR blood tests. It has affected his life greatly, I am now more of his carer than anything. Not that I mind as i love him to bits. But someone recently pointed out to me that he may be eligible to claim Disability Living Allowance. Does anyone have any info on DLA for DVT sufferers or if you think we should give it a try? :/ Any info would be great,
Thank you x x x
If you Google something like - Who is entitled to DLA you will get loads of information. Roughly I know at present you have to have had the conditions for 3 months and require care (there are different levels) for your personal needs and/or getting around. There is a care component and a mobility component. The care part is divided in to three levels and the mobility two levels. However, as I say you will get accurate information on specific websites. If he needs to be cared for or helped in any way you should apply for this.....sometimes can take appeals before you actually receive it but if you do it is back dated from the time of your application. Also usually your local Welfare Rights Office can be extremely helpful in helping applicants to complete the forms. It is soon to be placed by another benefit but meantime it is still there to apply for.
